Program Description    What The Kids Said    Who Is This Program For

Program Description:

Super Solvers Reading ( Ages 9-12) has two fast paced hunt and chase games. They are designed to build reading comprehension, spelling skills and expand reading vocabulary.

"Midnight Rescue" takes place inside an empty school at 9:00 at night. Morty Maxwell the Master of Mischief has hidden himself in one of 5 robots that are roaming around the school. You have "3 hours" to discover 4 clues and take photographs of all 5 robots in order to find the one that has Morty Maxwell hiding inside!

To get the clues you need, you have to find and read short 2-3 page written passages found hidden in the various rooms, and then select the right answer from a multiple choice question. To be able to answer the question, you must understand and remember the detail of the written passage. (You can read the passage as many times as you want, but must get the right answer when you make your choice, in order to get the clue).

In the "chase" part of this program you will also have to photograph all 5 robots before they bump into you. You have to move fast.

The program challenges your ability to read, understand and remember, as well as test your skills in deductive reasoning as you navigate your way around school.

In the "Whit House Spelling Bee", the second part of the program, you are solving crossword puzzles and unscrambling words that will build both your reading vocabulary and spelling skills.

The program has 5 levels of challenge that you work your way up through, from trainee to master level. The program has great reading content depth with over 200 different reading selections, 400 comprehension questions and 1,000 words to spell.

What the Kids said:

"This was a real challenge because you have to defend yourself against the robots, get the clues and beat the clock at midnight to win this game. I really liked it." - Jeremy, age 12

" The game is really fast and I had to be on my toes. The good thing was that when I was doing the reading parts to get the clues I could take all the time I needed to read carefully." - Sam, age 11

" I had to remember which rooms I had been in and where I had found the clues, so I didn't waste time. I wasn't very good the first time, but after a while I started to figure out how to do it." - Kelly, age 10

Who Is This Software Program For:

This program is for a child who responds to competitive challenge and likes the thrills of fast action excitement. It is often the very child who likes this type of experience who is not necessarily good at taking the time to slow down and read carefully for the purpose of understanding - and that is exactly what this program at it's core is all about - developing reading comprehension. This program is not for the child who is going to respond negatively to time pressure or dislike the need to react quickly in order to succeed.

Why We Selected This Program

This program is definitely for a certain type of child. Those who like it will really like it. The program does not have the latest in graphics and that doesn't matter, because the challenge of the game is what will hold their attention.

We selected this program because it does one thing really well - it provides a very rich and challenging experience that develops reading comprehension. To get through just one game you will have to have read and answered questions for over 20 reading passages. With over 200 different reading selections, from well known literature to stories related to what is happening in the school, the user is getting exposure to a variety of writing styles and content as well as lots of reading comprehension exercise. See if you can get a child to do this on a classroom setting. It is not easy. For a child who really likes the game aspect to this program, it will really get him or her reading. It was with a program very similar to this that my kids got their reading skills up when they were young. Guess what? They were motivated to read so they could play the game. It worked

Because it is very much a competitive challenge type of game, the 5 level "ladder of mastery" will draw kids back for more. The quantity of reading content and questions will make the program's reading content and reading comprehension testing new each time you play.

If you have a child who fits our description and would benefit from developing their reading comprehension skills, this is an excellent choice. .
