Program Description    What The Kids Said    Who Is This Program For
Why We Selected This Program    Computer Requirements

My Amazing Human Body is an interactive "junior encyclopedia" program for younger children. You are guided by an animated skeleton character and the program provides 4 different areas of exploration.

In "What Am I Made Of" you learn about the many specific parts of the body and "Me and my Day" you learn about the body's daily intake requirements. "Take Me Apart" is a game about the body's basic structure and anatomy and lastly, "Build Me a Body" is a game that tests your knowledge of the human body.

"What Am I Made Of" allows you to choose and explore a specific body part. If for example you select the eye, you are presented with a picture of the eye which you can rotate, measure, and even poke. If you click on the information button you'll be given a basic description. You can then choose to read a more detailed description or learn about the optics of the eye, blinking and tears or the mechanics of the eye. There is a total of 35 learning modules covering all the basic parts and organs of the body.

"Me and My Day" is an animated cartoon journey of the body through the course of one day. You choose the different types and amounts of activity for the character - exercise, rest, food, drink or sleep - and see what happens to the body when you make these choices. It's like a mini simulation, showing the effects of your choices, a very demonstrative way to learn some of the basic dynamics of how the body responds under various conditions

" Build Me A Body" is a quiz game that asks you specific questions about the body. If you don't know the answer, you click on information and you will get the relevant information page where you can find the answer. "Take Me Apart" is a game where you can learn the basic body parts by visually placing the right body parts in the right places.

The program can also be used as junior encyclopedia where you can look up specific information on the body from the index page of the program

Learning the different areas of the skeleton

"It was kind of interesting to see what happened when I fed the skeleton too much, or played too much."
- Theresa age 8

" I always wondered how big a stomach really was. Now I know."
- Tom, age 7

" It was fun making crazy pictures using the parts of the skeleton and printing them."
- Rasta, age 9

My Amazing Human Body is well suited for younger boys and girls who have a natural curiosity about how things work. This program has a high degree of interactivity making it suitable for a child who enjoys play and experimentation. If your child is searching for a school project idea or information on human anatomy, this program's index can be very useful in helping them find a topic area of interest and gather specific information.

What we really liked about the program is that the knowledge is presented in an interactive and engaging way, making it a unique way to introduce kids the basic structure and functions of the human body. For example, the "Me and My Day" part of the program allows you to experiment and see what happens if you overeat, or over exercise, and what affect this has on your hunger, thirst, heart, breathing rates and overall energy level. A very clever interactive way for a child to learn about how the body responds under various conditions

There is lots to do. You can build your own skeleton in order to learn and test your basic knowledge of the body. There is lots of flexibility around what you can do and the different paths you can take, once you are in a topic area. For example, the linked words in the text allow you to roam across the different areas of the body in a way that a written book doesn't as easily encourage.

My Amazing Human Body can bring to life, through it's high level of interactivity and humorous approach, an area of knowledge that many young kids might not normally take an interest in.
