Program Description    Commentary   Who Is This Program For
Why We Selected This Program    Computer Requirements

Flying Colors 2 is a unique and exciting creative experience for the child who wants to develop their visual creativity using the computer medium. Among all the art type programs Flying Colors is the purest creative art workshop program we have seen.

This program has over 30 art tools, 250 colors and over 3000 stamps. The broad range of tools gives the user that much more control and choice for their project. The icons are similar to most drawing programs and they will be easily recognized by the average user. However, the functions within each tool are harder to decipher. As each tool is selected, the options for using that tool appear at the bottom with a short written description of what they are. There are almost too many variables to consider for the younger user, hence the age requirement is 8 and up.

The options within the tools take the project to the next level and there are very detailed demonstrations and lessons to go through for each tool so that the user can become very familiar with each of their functions.

There are four skill levels available to choose from so the beginner can progress and not be overwhelmed by the scope of the program. Although there are many stamps, the demonstrations show that the user can use the shape and line tools to construct their own picture without using the uniform stamp function.

"I was amazed at the all the different possibilities of what I could create with this program. It seemed endless. I have used this program to create artwork in two of my school projects." Catherine, age 12

"I found the examples and lessons in the program of what you could create using Flying Colors really helpful. It allowed me to start making pictures without feeling I had to learn all the different parts of the program first, before I started." - Adrienne, age 14

" I had no idea that you could create pictures like this on the computer." - Dennis, age 11

This program will be attractive to the artistically inclined child who has the desire and patience to learn about the creative tools that will enable him or her to be really capable of creating art using a computer . This one is for the real budding artist.

It is also an excellent tool for any classroom and home because of the possibilities. Users can create their own birthday invitations, and posters at home. Projects and assignments become more colourful and fun with the addition of this software to their productivity tools. The possibilities are a function of the child's imagination. This program takes more learning time at the introductory stages, compared to the other art programmes and that is why we recommend it for ages 8 and up.

We selected this program because of its depth of tools and creativity opportunities. It is wonderful when a program can give children the tools they need and then allow them to produce whatever they want to.

It is rare that such software exists without some pre-designed template. Parents and teachers alike should be looking for software that allows for the maximum effort from the child, instead of filing in the blanks on a template created by someone else. The number of tools and options available with this program makes it an ideal addition to the home or school software library.
